I’m realising that I don’t actually have to integrate anything. Meaning that, if I choose to take responsibility for everything in my life, if I choose to look around at every single thing and decide that all of it is my creation, then I can also choose to change it and create something different.
One big trip up for me was that, when I looked at my life I used to feel such heavy emotions, like guilt and shame for how everything is and what I’ve done or haven’t done and I would just sit there and feel sorry for myself. And not only that but I would really get hang up on the stuff I do not want, focusing on owning them and trying to integrate them. And I’ll tell you what, this is a good idea, it’s an interesting concept, yet it remains just that, a theory, a concept, that someone else has come up with in order to understand their reality, it doesn’t have to apply to your life and you’re not failing at anything if it doesn’t work for you.
Everything in life is like a big buffet of offerings. It’s about trying things on, see what fits, what resonates and then move on. You take what works for you and leave the rest behind. You might change your mind and come back to something you previously thought wasn’t working for you, but in any given moment you get to decide what works best, what’s the most desirable direction to take and what perspective fits.
One of my teachers used to say, “your physical present is your mental past, your mental present is your physical future”. And even though I understood it at the time, now I really get it.
You can think new thoughts.
You can feel new emotions.
You can choose new beliefs.
The things that you choose for yourself are your truth and it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s, and it doesn’t have to be understood or approved by others, it’s only for yourself.
So I just wanted to remind myself and remind you too that you can choose differently. You can choose what works, you can choose what feels good, you can always choose!
You’re under no obligation to be the same person you were five minutes ago – what will you choose?
